Sorticulture: Garden Arts Festival

This weekend, Everett WA is holding its annual Sorticulture Festival which is a FREE family event at the Legion Memorial Park located just north of town and looks out over the Puget Sound.   Today was my first time going to the show, and I was impressed.  It was a nice scaled down version of Seattle’s large NW Flower and Garden Show, but outside and did I mention FREE? The wasn’t much parking nearby which was not a good thing for someone who is about to have kidney surgery, but great exercise for those in good health.
The vendors ranged from small nurseries selling a huge assortment of plants to local artists- metal, glass, wood, re-purposed items, you name it, it was there. It was not overwhelming with hundreds of vendors down dozens of long isles and sales people jumping out at you to sign up for their latest giveaway – no, much more laid back.  They even had small display gardens, and we ran into some buddies who we’ve built gardens next to at the big garden show in years past.  Here are some of my highlights:

A big sphere of horse shoes... yeah, I think I might need something like this for my farm

Lots of little plants - succulents and carniverous plants are high on the list of priorities for my kids

Chicken coop / tractor... of course I *had* to check it out. Nice design on sale for $10.

Our lost marbles are found by those crazy kids who follow me around everywhere!

One of the display gardens had an amazing metal arbor reaching out over a patio.. and had some great wooden raised beds surrounding the space

a tent full of Green Men..I had to bring a few of these babies home for my cedar trees

and finally glass.. my favorite garden art obsession. www.glassgardensnw.com has an adorable little glass fountain at a very reaonable price!

If you are in the Puget Sound area and have not been to the Sorticulture Festival, you are missing out.  Go check it out!
