Farm Tour: Days of Snow

When nearby Seattle anxiously awaits snowfall, chances are we already have a nice blanket covering our little farm.  This year has been full of new snow adventures and I thought I’d share some pictures of what is happening here with this years massive snow dump.  Total accumulation has been approx 15″ over the past several days.

This is what our driveway looks like - notice the small tree hanging on the power lines

as you keep coming down the drive.. there is another tree that we have our eyes on. I just hope it doesn't get windy!

The north pasture is perfect for sledding - the kids have been out almost every waking hour since the snow first fell.

Our nursery area is covered but we can still prep seed trays!

Here is a sneak peak at our brand new aquaponic system!! The thermal mass of water keeps the hoophouse around 45 degrees, despite being in teh mid 20's outside! More on this later...

On our snow day to-do list: paint bee hives!

Looking north towards the barn

Only one of our animals is OK with the snow..the loud little call duck! The chickens, dog, horse, goat.. not intersted!!

The back arbor surrounding a firepit.. this is my view from the office and the kitchen!

It is handy to have a little biodiesel bobcat for the landscape business.. it is also a giant snow shovel to clear access to the world and to build snow parks! This pile is the launch point...

My cold frame is nice and insulated, the lettuces inside are doing fine.. but notice the 4'6" snowboard jump in the making behind the garden!

We now have a total of 5 jumps for this snowboard course running the length of our driveway!!

I hope everyone is staying safe and warm out there!!
